Rwanda Shanga Fully Washed Coffee

This lot comes from the Simbi washing station, in the sector of the same name in Huye District, Southern Province, at an altitude of 1,980 to 2,250 metres. The station is privately owned and run by Abdul Rudahunga, who was introduced to coffee by his grandmother: a farmer and one of the few rural Rwandan women who roasted and enjoyed her own coffee every day.

Harvesting takes place by hand from March to October, in three passes. After pulping, the cherries are fermented in water and sorted by density in the washing channels. Drying takes place first under cover for the first 24 hours, then in the sun on raised African beds for 15–18 days. This slow, careful method produces a clean, crystalline coffee, awarded an SCA score of 86.

In the cup, you'll find floral aromas, hints of almond, milk chocolate and sweet notes of yellow-fleshed fruit, with a lively acidity and a delicate, elegant body.

Majer's Rwanda Shanga Fully Washed Coffee is made from 100% washed Arabica Bourbon from the Simbi washing station in Huye District. Its high altitude and fully washed processing give it a floral, sweet profile with notes of almond, milk chocolate and yellow-fleshed fruit, lively acidity and a delicate body.
